Roma beat Barcelona to signing of Spaniard Angel

Roma are on the verge of signing Jose Angel Valdes from Sporting Gijon, beating off competition from Barcelona for the players’ signature.
New Roma coach Luis Enrique has already made it clear he intends to reduce the average age of the Roma squad and the addition of left sided defender Angel, who is 21, would help initiate the process.
Speaking to Teleradiostereo, Angel said: “I am very happy about what is said and written about me in Rome. Barcelona was interested in me but Roma are the most interested in my purchase.”
It seems the appointment of Luis Enrique as Giallorossi Coach could be a major factor in the destination of the Spain under-21 international.
Angel claims he was inspired seeing the Spaniard in Sporting Gijon colours before his move to Real Madrid in 1991:“I know Luis Enrique as a player at Sporting Gijon and I think he has all it takes to become a great coach”.
Roma are still in negotiations with Barcelona for the purchase of Bojan Krkic and hope to conclude a deal within the next week.
Rumours persist regarding possible departures from the capital, with John Arne Riise the latest in a number of potentially high-profile players made available for transfer, joining the likes of Mirko Vucinic and Jeremy Menez.
