Roma striker Borriello responds to Ranieri’s “tired” claims

Roma striker Marco Borriello has responded to statements from his coach Claudio Ranieri that he was substituted in Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Napoli because he looked tired. Speaking to Corriere Dello Sport, the 28-year-old hit man said “absolutely not, I was certainly in better shape than the Napoli defenders. When I was substituted, Paolo Cannavaro breathed a huge sigh of relief”.
He continued his explanation by commenting that “I always respect the coach’s decisions and I have to do the same with this one. I always speak the truth and I really believed that I was going to score as the game wore on. I was really displeased to have been substituted” Even captain Francesco Totti was surprised by the change for Ranieri commenting that “I did not see a tired player, Borriello was holding the ball up well in attack”.
