Roma without three key players for Basel clash

At his press conference this morning, Roma coach Claudio Ranieri conceded to journalists that his team would be without three key men for Tuesday evening’s Champions League showdown against Swiss side Basel.
Daniele De Rossi, Mirko Vucinic and Jeremy Menez are all unavailable for the Giallorossi so the Roman born tactician could opt to start with the same line-up that inflicted Saturday’s 2-1 defeat on Genoa.
It was hoped that De Rossi would have recovered in time from the knock he picked up in training with the national side but his race to be fit has failed. Vucinic still has his thigh problem which ruled him out of his country’s game against England last week and Menez is still not fully recovered from a muscle injury picked up a couple of weeks ago. Ranieri also reacted angrily to journalists who criticised the newly laid pitch at the Stadio Olimpico saying that there was absolutely no problem with the new playing surface.
