Rossi defends dropping Gilardino after Fiorentina draw with Siena

Fiorentina Coach Delio Rossi has defended his decision to start Tuesday’s match against Siena without star striker Alberto Gilardino.
La Viola had a difficult first-half, but changed to a 3-5-2 after the break, but Rossi insists it was not the formation that was important:
”More than a Coach i’m being an inventor, I have changed our tactics a lot,” Rossi told Sky Italia. ”I have to find one that involves most of the players, but there isn’t one where they all can play.”
With Gilardino benched until the 63rd minute, and the game ending 0-0, Rossi came under some criticism for not starting their main striker: ”I’m paid to make decisions, and I do them regardless of their name. Often in these kind of games I have taken Gilardino off, today I did the opposite, putting him on in the second half.”
