Sampdoria sign Maccarone from Palermo

Sampdoria have signed transfer listed Massimo Maccarone from Palermo. The former Siena forward had struggled to hold down a starting place in Delio Rossi’s side since his arrival this summer.
A statement from Sampdoria read “Sampdoria announces they have signed Massimo Maccarone on a permanent transfer from Palermo. The player will begin training tomorrow with the squad.”
Palermo had decided to let Maccarone leave Sicily as they were content with their attacking options. After only six months with the Rosanero the former Empoli hit man had only made three starts and 15 substitute appearances with only two goals to his name. Initially signed for three years it was clear the move had not worked out and he was placed on the transfer list.
Cesena were also interested in Maccarone but Sampdoria acted quickly to secure their man, after the departure of Antonio Cassano the Blucerchiati have been keen to bolster their squad. Signings in January already include Mauro Icardi from Barcelona, Zsolt Laczko from Debrecen and a loan deal for Federico Macheda.
Maccarone is a journey man striker who started his career in the youth system at Milan. He did not feature for the first team but has gone onto play for nine different clubs in 13 years. His most successful spells were at Empoli, Middlesbrough and Siena. Welcome Bonus Offer Betway
