Semeraro surprised by length of Chevanton’s ban

Lecce President Pierandrea Semeraro has expressed his surprise at the lengthy five-game ban handed out to striker Javier Chevanton for his actions during the game with Sampdoria.
However, Semeraro wasn’t expecting the punishment to be this severe and according to Corriere dello Sport declared: “We were expecting the ban, but not such as this. We want to appeal but we will fine him anyway”.
Chevanton was banned for five matches after his violent and disrespectful behaviour, Sunday during the match against Sampdoria. The striker blatantly kicked out at Guido Marilungo after his appeals for a penalty were rejected at the other end and threw his shirt away in disgust once given his marching orders.
“With this provision” the President added “they meant to heavily punish the anti-sportive attitude of the player. They wanted to make an example of how in this season, they want to persecute this kind of behaviour”.
Coach Luigi De Canio, commented: “ He understood that he made a mistake. The five game ban is the logical consequence for what he has done on the pitch, butmaybe he deserved less. In my opinion, the referee has wrongly valued the intention of Chevanton. However, his reaction then was exaggerate and unjustifiable”.
Chevanton’s ban means he won’t feature for Lecce till the end of the year. The Salentini sit just one point above the relegation zone and travel to Cagliari this weekend. Welcome Bonus Offer Betway
