Serie A players confirm strike

The Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC) has confirmed that Serie A players will go on strike on the weekend of the 11th and 12th December. The strike has been mooted for a while due to the breakdown in negotiations over collective bargaining rights for the players.
They have still not found an agreement with the league, so for the second time they have planned to go on strike. AIC vice-president Leonardo Grosso confirmed: “We are sorry because there was an openness to negotiate on our part.”
Conversely, the president of the league Maurizio Beretta argued: “We are participating in a dangerous and absurd massacre. The strike is an irresponsible decision and hasn’t been based in reason.” The strike will affect a whole match-day in Serie A, the biggest game of which would have seen Lazio against Juventus.
