Serie B action round-up – Week 10 – Cesena on the charge, Salernitana in crisis

Round 10 started on Friday evening at the Via del Mare in Lecce as Luigi De Canio’s men entertained rock-bottom Salernitana. A Daniele Corvia strike on 22 minutes sealed all three points for the hosts and was a little harsh on the Granata, who are still searching for their first win of the season in what is turning into a disastrous campaign. No such problems for the team of the season so far – Frosinone thumped Modena 0-3 at the Alberto Braglia. Alfredo Cariello put the Canarini ahead on 18 minutes, which was doubled 13 minutes into the second half by Gennaro Troianiello. Four minutes from time, an own goal by Armando Perna compounded Modena’s misery as Francesco Moriero’s men remained top.

Hot on their heels come Cesena who beat Brescia 2-0 at the Dino Manuzzi. First-half strikes from Marco Parolo and Massimo Volta sent the Bianconeri fans into raptures and left them just two points off the leaders. It was a baptism of fire for new Brescia Tactician Giuseppe Iachini. Another Coach making his debut with a new squad was Mario Somma, who took over Triestina just before the international break. His debut on the Unione bench resulted in a 1-0 over Gallipoli thanks to a first-half injury time goal from Francesco Volpe.

Torino returned to winning ways with a spirited 1-2 away win at Ascoli. The visitors took the lead four minutes before half-time thanks to a Luca Belingheri strike. 19 minutes into the second period a Marco Bernacci penalty levelled things up, but 13 minutes later Rolando Bianchi popped up with the winner for Toro. Walter Novellino’s tenure at the helm of Reggina is in serious doubt after his side were thrashed 0-3 at home by Ancona. A penalty from Salvatore Mastronunzio put the visitors in front after 17 minutes. Matías Miramontes and Roberto Colacone sealed a well deserved win to leave Novellino to face some serious questions from a disgruntled tifosi.

Mantova and Empoli played out a 1-1 draw at the Danilo Martelli. Simone Saviato put the hosts ahead 13 minutes after the interval but the Tuscans replied nine minutes later thanks to Claudio Coralli. In Cittadella, there was a similar outcome where Piacenza was the visitors. Fabrizio Castori’s men thought they had sealed all three points when Davide Moscardelli put them in front just nine minutes from time, but with two minutes remaining, Matteo Ardemagni gave the hosts a share of the points. Grosseto and Padova produced another entertaining Week 10 draw in the Carlo Zecchini stadium. The hosts were two up by half-time thanks to Thomas Pichimann and Marco Turati, but a second half renaissance from Carlo Sabatini’s side saw Vincenzo Italiano and Andrea Soncin rescue a point for the Patavini.

Rolando Maran’s Vicenza picked up a much needed win in Crotone where Alessandro Sgrigna and Stefano Botta were on target for the visitors. An own goal by Valerio Di Cesare gave the hosts a consolation. The Monday evening game saw Sassuolo travel to Bergamo to face Albinoleffe. Neither side were able to find a breakthrough as the game ended goalless to bring the curtain down on the latest round of matches.
