Lecce stay top this week picking up three points in the Monday night game, Sassuolo move to third after continuing winning ways but woes for Ancona as they are thrashed away at bottom club Salernitana.
Albinoleffe 2-0 Cittadella: Albinoleffe took the lead in this game with a very dubious penalty on half-time. Nevertheless Marco Cellini converted for 1-0. The game took on a scrappy state of affairs until in the final minute Karamoko Cissé placed a right foot shot into the top corner from 20 yards.
Ascoli 2-0 Modena: This may have been a middle of the table clash but it was heated to say the least. A red card for Andrea Catellani preceded a finish into the bottom left from Mirko Antenucci, whilst Simone Gozzi’s second yellow saw him leave the field before Marco Bernacci scored from the spot.
Brescia 3-0 Crotone: It looked as if a trend was growing in the division this week – however many one team scores, the other will have just as many players sent-off. This was the case as Andrea Caracciolo scored a 13 minute hat-trick and Crotone saw Raffale De Martino, Francesco Galeoto and Archimede Morleo expelled from the pitch.
Cesena 0-0 Gallipoli: Pablo Pallante saw red for Gallipoli in a match which saw good goalkeeping stop Cesana close the gap on Lecce. The away side are now only three points from the drop zone.
Empoli 0-0 Torino: Torino look like a team that has a new lease of life and this was shown in the Friday night kick-off. Another red card marred this game when Nicolas Gosborov was sent off for the away side but Torino continued to press and will have high hopes for the second half of the season.
Grosseto 3-1 Triestina: The home side took the lead through a header from Gianluca Freddi. This was quickly followed by a double from Mauricio Ferreira Pinilla, the second a penalty, that effectively ended the game although Triestina gained a consolation goal from Thierry Audel in the final minute.
Lecce 1-0 Piacenza: Lecce marched on in their quest for promotion with a solitary goal from Djamel Mesbah, his header coming back off the bar straight to him to slam home after seven minutes. The Monday night game leaves Lecce top with a lead of three points whilst Piacenza remain second from bottom.
Mantova 3-1 Frosinone: Mantova showed that they are not going down without a fight, Maurizio Nassi opened the scoring followed by a Gaetano Caridi penalty. The away side hit back through Vincenzo Santoruvo but in the final minute Gianluca Nicco’s turn of pace and smashed shot confirmed all three points.
Padova 0-1 Reggina: This was a real relegation dog fight. The game was settled by a single goal when a deep free-kick in the box was not dealt with and Biagio Pagano pounced to score the winning goal. Padova are now looking in serious trouble.
Salernitana 3-0 Ancona: Performance of the week goes to bottom club Salernitana as they smashed three past Ancona in heated match. Roberto Merino converted a penalty in the second-half before debutant Federico Dionisi scored two goals in four minutes and dealt Ancona a blow in the promotion race.
Sassuolo 2-1 Vicenza: Sassuolo sit in third place after this well earned victory. Alessandro Noselli perfectly lobbed the away team’s goalkeeper before a good cross was headed in with power by Daniele Martinetti. A penalty for the away side was converted by Alessandro Sgrigna but there was never a hope of a come back.
