Serie B is back after the Winter break

Italy’s second tier kicked off again this weekend and in doing so showed that the New Year will more than likely be as unpredictable as the last.
Last year newly promoted Novara had swept aside all before them playing some sublime football and unbelievably occupying top spot at Christmas. The New Year started with a trip to Modena who sat firmly in mid-table, however, this proved to be the shock of the day as Andrea Mazzarani and Cristian Pasquato scored for the home side securing a surprise 2-1 victory against the league leaders.
Second place Siena did not make the same mistake in their tie with mid table Albinoleffe at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. The Tuscan side won 2-1 with Marcelo Larrondo grabbing his fifth of then season. Livorno to closed the gap on the league leaders and in doing so put themselves in fifth place. A 2-0 away win at second from bottom Frosinone was just the start they needed this year after an inconsistent 2010. Varese were also newly promoted last year and have also been in good form. Currently sitting in fourth place they looked like promotion maybe on the cards however, the New Year did not bring them the luck they needed as they were beaten by lowly Piacenza, Michele Anaclerio’s late strike stealing a much needed three points for the home side.
Other notable results saw Torino miss out on moving into the promotion places after they drew with Padova, bottom place Portogruaro recorded another defeat this time 2-0 away at Crotone and Triestina gained an important 2-0 victory over Ascoli in a relegation dog fight. Welcome Bonus Offer Betway
