Serie B Round up Week 37

Albinoleffe 4-1 Frosinone: Omar Torri put the home side three goals up with a superb hat-trick. His first was a powerful header from six yards that left the keeper standing, his second came nine minutes later and again came from a sweeping cross from the right only this time it was a glancing header into the far left, his third came from a sublime chip over the keeper, it did not help that the marking was poor. Frosinone pulled one back when Alfredo Cariello was allowed to run straight through the defence and slot one home, but the game was secured when Francesco Ruopolo tapped into an open goal.

Ascoli 1-1 Piacenza: Davide Moscardelli was given too much room and tapped in at the far post to give the away side the lead, however, Ascoli responded quickly and just before the break Mirko Antenucci turned well and put it past the despairing Christian Puggioni in the Piacenza.

Brescia 0-0 Reggina: Mario Balotelli was watching his home town club in what ended being a fairly run of the mill goalless draw. A speculative over head kick from Brescias Davide Possanzini and a disallowed goal from Regginas Simone Missiroli the only moments of note.

Cesena 2-3 Empoli: Cesenas Giuseppe Colucci headed the home side into an early lead only for Claudio Coralli to tap in an equaliser before the break. Cesena, being desperate for promotion were soon back in the game when Matias Schelotto back heeled in from two yards. Empoli were not giving up and a 20 yard rocket from Gianluca Musacci was driven into the bottom corner. It was then disaster for Cesena who on seventy five minutes conceded again as Pietro De Giorgio weaved in and out of the defenders before crashing home.

Cittadella 6-0 Mantova: The home side destroyed Mantova to go third in emphatic manner. Matteo Ardemagni ran on to a through ball to crash home the opener. Tommaso Bellazzini then scored twice, a low drive from the edge of the box and then another 20 yard screamer into the top corner. Leonardo Pettinari smashed home from an acute angle for four before Tommaso Bellazzini completed his hat trick courtesy of a deflection, the sixth came from Leonardo Pettinari adding to his earlier strike, this time a delicate scoop over the goalkeeper.

Crotone 1-0 Torino: Being a Torino fan must be a rollercoaster of emotions to say the least. Four weeks ago they hit form at the right time but now with little time remaining they slip to eighth. Denilson Marítimo Gabionettas30 yard drive deceived Matteo Sereni in only the first minute. Try as they might Torino failed to get back into the game and promotion seems to be slipping away.

Gallipoli 3-2 Salernitana: Gallipoli went a goal down courtesy of a looping header from Luca Orlando. The home side then scored two in quick succession both from Massimiliano Scaglia his first an incredible 30 yard free kick, his second a well placed penalty. Luca Orlando equalised with this second for the away side profiting on bad defending, but within two minutes Luis Fernando Centi won the game as his second effort only just went over the line after seeing his first well saved.

Grosseto 0-3 Lecce: Lecce have finally found fifth gear and are racing away from the pack and this superb away win was testament to that. Guillermo Giacomazzi slid in to connect with David Di Micheles cross for 0-1. The second came after some good inter-play when Mariano de Almeida Angelo was left to pass the ball into the net from 18 yards. Thomas Pichlmann missed a penalty for the home side before the ever reliable Daniele Corvia scrambled the ball home for all three points late on.

Sassuolo 1-0 Ancona: Sassuolo stay second thanks to Daniele Martinettis tidy finish from six yards although the best players on the pitch were the two goalkeepers Júnior Costa and Walter Bressan were the only reasons that this game did not finish with a lot more goals, even Sassuolos Jonathan Rossini red card did not help alter the score line.

Triestina 1-1 Modena: Luigi Della Rocca had given the home side the lead with a debatable penalty before a well taken goal got the away side back in the game on seventy two minutes. A draw helped neither team in their fight to survive.

Vicenza 0-0 Padova: The colour, hostility, pageantry and entertainment of a local derby was all contained to the stands as this game offered nothing of note. Few chances and little to report in a game that helps neither team in avoiding the drop
