In an exclusive interview with the Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter superstar Wesley Sneijder has been explaining that he is very close to finalising a new deal with the club.
Rumours coming out of the Italian media were that there had been a problem regarding the amount on offer from Inter but the Dutchman explained that: “two or three weeks, maybe less and everything should be in place. I do not believe that there has been a problem about my future. It was not a question about salary and bonuses, I am now 26 years old not 20 and at this stage of my career, I need to make sure that everything is right”.
He was also asked if he was missing former coach Jose Mourinho: “it is true we had a special rapport and I was happy to have worked with a coach as good as him. Mourinho found the perfect position for me and because of this I was voted the best midfielder in last season’s Champions League, for this I have to thank him”.
On the question regarding the criticism aimed towards his Argentinean teammate Diego Milito, Sneijder replied: “he has had a bad month and injuries have contributed to this. It is only a matter of time until he returns to top form”. When asked about Milan’s summer spending and whether it would be a two horse race for the championship Sneijder stated that: “of course Milan are fighting the same as us but we must not overlook the challenge of Juventus or even Roma. The championship is not only about two teams”.
