Stankovic: “Inter made history for Italian football”

Dejan Stankovic proudly recalled the amazing year he had with Inter on Inter Channel and believes the club’s achievements have propelled Italian football into the limelight once again.
The Nerazzurri captured five trophies in 2010 starting with the Coppa Italia, the Scudetto, the Champions League, the Italian Super Cup and most recently the Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi.
“2010 has been and will remain unforgettable: we made history, not only for Inter but for Italian football on a European and global level. It will stay in our minds and our hearts for ever.”
Stankovic was a pivotal part of Inter’s campaign and featured in over 40 games for the Beneamata. However, ‘El Dragon’ feels its difficult to single out a particular win as the most memorable one.
“It’s impossible to choose the best victory because there isn’t one: each trophy we won had something perfect about it. Of course, with Inter not having won them for so many years, the Champions League and the Club World Cup carry special importance.”
2010 also brought with it a fair share of changes on the Inter bench, as Mourinho made way for Rafa Benitez who was replaced last week by ex-Milan tactician Leonardo.
“I don’t want to surrender anything. There have been some changes, and changes always provoke a positive reaction, but this group is still much the same, still full of desire to win things.”
The reigning champions are also struggling in the league as they are 13 points behind city rivals in the standings, but the Serbian feels that the team is only further motivated by this challenge.
“We have spoken about this (the league) in our first meeting with Leonardo: we have two games in hand and if we get six points we’ll be back up there again and the others will start looking over their shoulders.”
