Three players who could arrive in Serie A in January

With the end of the calendar year fast approaching, managers will have one eye on the upcoming January transfer market with a view to strengthening their squad. Although there is plenty of football to be played before the winter break, new arrivals can make a big difference for team challenging for the Scudetto, competing for an European spot or battling to avoid relegation to Serie B. It is an excellent opportunity for Serie A managers to come into their own and illustrate their astuteness in the transfer market, although there is always the risk of panic buying that can dramatically backfire. Betway Sports will keep on top of the latest transfer rumours, with a growing number of players linked with January moves to Serie A if the rumour mill is to be believed.

Lukas Podolski
January is often the best time for players who are suffering from a lack of first-team action to seek pastures new elsewhere. Lukas Podolski certainly fits into this category, with the Germany international being left out in the cold at Arsenal which has caused the striker to voice his discontent and demand talks with Arsene Wenger. His omission from Joachim Low’s squad during the last international break may prove to be the breaking point for the 29-year-old who still has the quality to be a leading marksman for many clubs across Europe. Napoli and Galatasaray were amongst a selection of clubs who were immediately linked with a January move for Podolski, but Serie A leaders Juventus are the latest to be preparing a bid for the Arsenal star. With Giovinco’s future uncertain, Massimo Allegri may be in the market for a suitable replacement, although Podolski possesses enough quality in his left foot to fire the Old Lady towards yet another Serie A title.
Mohamed Salah
Loan deals can often prove to be beneficial for Serie A teams, particularly when they involve players who have been left on the sidelines and want to prove a point to their current employers. Chelsea’s superb start to the season in the English Premier League and Champions League has made it difficult for Mohamed Salah to break into the first-team picture, with Jose Mourinho’s star players continuing to shine. The 22-year-old Egyptian may seek a loan move away from Stamford Bridge in order to continue his progress and gain invaluable first team action, with former club Basel a potential destination for Salah to shine. Napoli are also reported to be interested in Salah’s services, with the winger offer explosive pace and quality that could add a new dimension to Rafa Benitez’s team and provide a greater chance of finishing in the top three.
Ezequiel Lavezzi
It would seem illogical that anyone playing for one of the most illustrious clubs in European football would be seeking a move, but in Ezequiel Lavezzi’s case, his love for Italian football may play a part in his potential departure from Paris Saint-Germain where first-team action is not guaranteed. The 29-year-old was idolised during a wonderful 5-year spell at Napoli where he formed a superb partnership with Edinson Cavani – who is also at PSG – but his move to France has not worked out as well as many had hoped. A return to his former clubs is certainly on the cards, although Manchester United and Liverpool are also rumoured to be interested. New Inter manager Roberto Mancini is a fan of Lavezzi and may look to bring the striker back to Serie A, although it remains to be seen what value Laurent Blanc places on the explosive Argentine.
