Three Youngsters to Watch in the 2019/20 Serie A Season

Throughout the years, Serie A has been the home to some of the world’s greatest players. From Cristiano Ronaldo to Diego Maradona and Zinedine Zidane, fans of Italian football have long been able to witness incredible talents on a regular basis.
As a result, we’re going to look at some of the league’s best talents that you should keep an eye on during the 2019/20 campaign.

Lautaro Martinez
After attracting interest at youth level following a string of impressive displays with Liniers, Lautaro Martinez was signed by Argentinian side, Racing Club, in 2014. After spending four years in his native Argentina, the striker boasted an impressive 32 goal involvement in 58 games, with many of them coming in the 2016 season and beyond. Following his quick rise, Martinez moved to Inter in 2018 for a reported €22.7 million and could the perfect option to replace Mauro Icardi in the starting side.

Known for his quick feet, lightning pace and impressive finishing ability, Martinez has all the attributes to become one of Nerazzurri’s biggest stars. The 22-year-old has featured in all five of table-topping Inter’s opening five games and scored the opening goal in their 2-1 victory over Cagliari in the second match of the season. Despite already carrying plenty of expectation on his shoulders, the upcoming season could be the catalyst for Martinez to enhance his ever-growing reputation.
Nicolo Barella
The 22-year-old midfielder, Nicolo Barella, has everything required of a true Serie A midfielder. Having come through the ranks at his local side, Cagliari, the promising talent would move to Inter Milan in the 2019 summer transfer window for an initial loan with the obligation to buy. Barella has also already amassed nine senior caps for the national team, and with Italy being 1/25 with international football betting to top Group J in the Euro qualifiers, the midfielder will be hopeful of representing his country more frequently over the coming months.

Since joining the Milan side, the 22-year-old has started three of the opening five fixtures and has already impressed the loyal supporters. Along with assisting Romelu Lukaku’s goal in Inter’s 2-0 Milan derby victory, he also scored a 92nd-minute equaliser against Slavia Prag during Inter’s opening Champions League group match. Although he has already showcased his talents early in the season, the best is certainly still to come from Barella.
Sandro Tonali
The future of the Italian midfield could be somewhat frightening, especially when you consider Sandro Tonali’s impressive rise. After securing promotion to the top-flight with Brescia, Tonali has scored and assisted one goal in their opening five Serie A matches. As a result, the midfielder’s recent performances lead to Manchester United scouts watching the youngster in Brescia’s recent 2-1 defeat to Juventus.

The 19-year-old has been compared to former Italy star Andrea Pirlo on more than one occasion and looks capable of filling the icons boots in the national team. Tonali has made 11 appearances for the U19s side and a further four at under-21 level, along with also being called up to the senior squad for the very first time back in 2018. If Serie A, and, more specifically, Brescia, can keep Tonali over the coming years, then the league may have one of the world’s best midfielders on their hands.
There’s No Shortage of Talent
Throughout the upcoming season, the very best of Serie A’s next generation of talents are going to be there for all to see. While the league isn’t short of emerging prospects, Lautaro Martinez, Nicolo Barella and Sandro Tonali are certainly three to keep an eye on.
