There have been some key battles already this season but the one coming up between Chelsea and Manchester City means the most in terms of the Premier League title race.
It seems ridiculous to say that given Manchester United have already played both sides and Liverpool. However, the Blues and City have the best squads and are the teams to beat this term.
Neither side have found their best form yet. City have mixed impressive wins over Newcastle and rivals United with surprise defeats against Cardiff and Aston Villa, while Chelsea are just starting to find their feet after a relatively poor start under Jose Mourinho.
The clash at Stamford Bridge on October 27 gives both sides an opportunity to lay down a marker. It should be an enthralling encounter.
Unlike City, Chelsea have failed to flex their muscles so far. Their best win of the league campaign came last time out at Norwich, when substitutes Eden Hazard and Willian highlighted the Blues’ strength in depth with late goals.
Mourinho has a wealth of talent at his disposal. A midfield containing Oscar, Ramires, Juan Mata, Andre Schurrle and Frank Lampard is enough to send shivers down the spine of the opposition. That is without contemplating Mourinho’s options off the bench.
City, too, have a hard time keeping their players happy, with Jesus Navas, Samir Nasri and Edin Dzeko having to settle for a place on the bench in the 3-1 win over Everton.
While it is difficult to split the two sides, Chelsea have never lost a Premier League match at Stamford Bridge under Mourinho and City are yet to win on the road this season, losing twice in three games.
Chelsea are rightly favourites given their home advantage but the smart money is on the draw, which is currently at 9/4 with BetVictor.
If there is a winner, they will strike the first blow in what will be a title race with plenty of twists and turns.
