Zambrotta sets sights on Champions League

Gianluca Zambrotta currently has 98 caps for the Azzurri and dreams of getting to 100 soon. In an interview with Sportmediaset.it Zambrotta talked about positions, Champions League, and Milan full-backs.
Zambrotta started on the right side of midfield at Bari but was shifted to left-back under Marcelo Lippi at Juventus. “I was young and I wanted to play so I accepted to play at left-back gladly. This experiment turned out to be successful.”
The UEFA Champions League has eluded Zambrotta throughout his career and he is keen on winning the title in the near future. “I miss the Champions League because it is the most important trophy at club level. I came close with Juventus in 2003… but we missed it. I hope to win it by the end of my career. This year would be nice.”
With the signing of Taye Taiwo last summer, competition for the position at left-back has increased a great deal at Milan. Zambrotta is currently the most experienced left back at Milan and believes that Taiwo has to “improve defensively”. “He is more accustomed to attack than to defend. Allegri and his team at Milan are doing their best to make him fit into the current system,” he said.
