Zanetti defends Gattuso

Gennaro Gattuso’s clash with Joe Jordan after Tottenham’s game against Milan in mid-week has been a controversial topic. Support for Gattuso has been limited which makes it even more of a surprise that Inter Captain Javier Zanetti has spoken in his defence.
After Joe Jordan has taunted the Milan veteran on Tuesday night the angered Rino attacked the bewildered Scot. This will now see him face between a one and five game ban for gross unsporting conduct despite Gattuso since having apologised.
One man who did speak out in favour of Gattuso the Captain of bitter city rivals Inter. Zanetti spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport saying that “These things can happen. I saw that he was rather irritable, but these things can happen in a very tense match. Besides, Rino immediately apologised, so we have to take that into account too.”
Milan will have to travel to White Hart lane without their fiery midfielder who has played 338 times for the club. This is not the first time he has seen controversy however, in September 2003 he slapped his (now team mate) Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the face in a Champions League game against Ajax.
