Zapata completes switch to Villareal

Udinese’s Cristian Zapata has completed his transfer to Spanish side Villareal for an undisclosed fee. The 25-year old central defender has left the Friulian club after 6 seasons and has signed a 5 year contract with the Yellow Submarines.
Zapata had been linked with big money moves to Liverpool, Arsenal and Juventus, however it seems as if a last minute offer from the Spanish club seems to have been enough to entice Udinese to seel their prized defender.
The Zebrette confirmed their transfer on their website and thanked the 25 year old Colombian for his service with the club:
“Udinese can confirm the transfer of Colombian Cristian Eduardo Zapata Valencia to Spanish side Villareal. The club would like to put on record their thanks for the professionalism he showed during his six years with us and wish him all the best for his career.”
Zapata is currently on international duty with Colombia at the Copa America and will join up with his new club at the end of the tournament.
