Zenit St. Petersburg say Spalletti is going nowhere

Zenit St. Petersburg have stated that Coach Luciano Spalletti believed to be a hot favourite to succeed Rafa Benitez at Inter will be staying put in Russia.
Spalletti who guided the Russians to a domestic title and cup victory in his first season was said to be Inter’s preferred replacement for Benitez. But such speculation has been shot down by Zenit director Igor Korneev.
“Spalletti’s future is with Zenit. In a recent interview the very same Luciano already expressed his position, indicating he hadn’t received offers from Inter or any other teams.”
The former Giallorossi Coach has stated in the past that he wants to continue with Zenit and his director’s comments seem to support this notion. Inter may now be forced to look elsewhere if they are to shuffle their bench.
Benitez is walking on thin ice at Inter after he issued an ultimatum to buy new players or risk him quitting his position. Inter President labelled his Coach’s comments as ‘inappropriate’ and has so far refused to confirm his future with the Nerazzurri.
Zenit were recently linked with a move for Juventus star Gianluigi Buffon but Korneev says that these are mere stories invented by the media.
“These are just rumours. And so are the ones linking us with Chelsea’s Frank Lampard and Petr Cech. They are all great players, but there are no bids from Zenit.”
Zenit have finished their domestic season but are still active in the UEFA Europa League which will resume in February and see the Russians face Swiss side Young Boys.
